Applies To: All staff journalists, editors, producers, engineers, contributors, and automated systems across Nexpher News and its associated marketplaces (including Nexpher News features on the Images marketplace, such as Ask Nexpher AI, visual search, and tagging).

1. Core Principles

Nexpher News is committed to harnessing artificial intelligence responsibly to support newsgathering, efficiency, and innovation. However, speed and technological efficiency must never take precedence over accuracy, fairness, and trust.

• Human-Centric Journalism: AI is an assistive tool to empower human creativity and reporting. It does not replace reporters, editors, or critical editorial judgment.

• Editorial Accountability: AI cannot be held responsible for published content. Human editors and journalists retain full legal and ethical accountability for everything we publish.

• Accuracy and Scepticism: Our core mantra when interacting with AI tools remains: Be skeptical and verify. AI outputs must always be treated as unverified raw material (akin to a tip or secondary source) rather than established fact.

2. Permitted Uses of AI in Newsrooms

Nexpher News journalists and production teams may use approved, vetted AI tools for specific supportive workflows, including:

• Background Research & Summarization: Summarizing public documents, organizing background information, or preparing internal chronologies/explainers.

• Transcription & Translation: Transcribing interviews, press conferences, or audio files, and translating foreign-language material—provided every translated or transcribed segment undergoes mandatory human verification.

• Ideation & Copy Assistance: Brainstorming headlines, structuring outlines, formatting data, categorizing content tags, and checking grammar or style.

• Marketplace Features: Assisting users on the Images marketplace via tools like Ask Nexpher AI, visual search, and automated asset tagging, under strict supervision.

3. Prohibited Uses of AI

To preserve public trust and journalistic integrity, certain applications of AI are strictly forbidden:

• No Autonomous Publishing: AI tools must never publish un-vetted, unsupervised text, news alerts, or articles.

• No Fabrication: AI must never be used to invent news events, fabricate quotes, manufacture non-existent sources, or generate false data/interviews.

• No Core Reporting Replacement: AI must not be used to conduct primary reporting, replace field journalism, or simulate expert medical, legal, or financial advice.

• No Bulk Content Generation: AI tools must not be used to compose large blocks of raw, publishable text without rigorous human rewriting and verification.

4. Human Review and Editorial Oversight

• Mandatory Verification: All AI-assisted copy, summaries, headlines, or translations must be meticulously reviewed, fact-checked, and approved by a qualified human editor before going live.

• Hallucination Awareness: Staff must remain vigilant against AI "hallucinations"—instances where models fabricate plausible-sounding facts, links, or citations that do not exist.

5. Imagery and Synthetic Media

• Strict Labeling of Synthetic Images: AI-generated or heavily synthetic images used in journalism must be visibly and explicitly labeled.

• No Misleading Documentary Photos: Synthetic or generative images will never be presented as real documentary photographs of breaking news events.

• Marketplace Transparency: Visual search and tagging features on the Images marketplace must clearly distinguish between authentic user/archival photographs and synthetic assets.

6. Data Security, Privacy, and Confidentiality

• Protection of Unpublished Work: Just as reporters would never leak an unpublished scoop to an external platform, staff must never upload embargoed, confidential, unpublished, personal, or commercially sensitive information into unapproved public or open AI tools.

• Approved Infrastructure: Only enterprise-vetted and officially approved AI software with strict data-privacy protections may be utilized for internal newsroom operations.

7. Transparency and Corrections

• Audience Transparency: When AI plays a substantial role in shaping a complex piece of enterprise journalism, analysis, or translation, we will disclose its involvement to maintain audience trust.

• Corrections Policy: If an AI-assisted workflow introduces an error or oversight, Nexpher News will correct the record promptly, transparently, and comprehensively in line with our standard Corrections Policy. Readers are encouraged to report any suspected errors immediately.
